Happy Holidays, Folks!
Hope everybody is having a safe and enjoyable season and looking forward to the new year. I know the 2600 chapter, here in Rochester, NY most certainly is. There are BIG things going on here. Most notably, the creation of a hacker space, called Interlock Rochester.
Just a quick note/reminder for everyone, the meetings normally fall on the first Friday of every month, but due to the holiday our meeting will be 1 week from this Friday, on the 8th. The same time and venue.
Meeting is on for tonight December 4. As always, it’s 7:30pm at Panera Bread in Greece. Some of the guys from Interlock Rochester will be there to hang out and talk about the new hackerspace starting up in town. See you there.
There’s a Rochester 2600 meeting this week. Yes we’re still at Panera Bread in Greece. There’s a lot of fun things that people have been working on so we hope to see you there. If you want updates as they come, you can follow us on twitter. If you found this page because you are following us on twitter, beware the infinite loop.
This Sunday Jerel and Matt gave me a tour of the Buffalo Hackerspace. They’ve got an awesome location and these pictures don’t do it justice. Some of things that really caught my attention:

Hackerspaces are very open to interpretation – hardware guys are interested in the tool shed idea where resources are pooled to purchase fun equipment to make things, security guys like to test new software, business professionals are interested in a dedicated place to work on their projects away from the distractions at home, and some people are just interested in the social idea of having a dedicated place where like minded people can hang out.

[UPDATE: Little too excited. RSS is in 2 weeks. Thanks CJP]
It’s only a few weeks away from the Rochester Security Summit. If you’ve been to the summit other years, this isn’t your father’s Rochester Security Summit. This year includes an all-star group of speakers including Rob Fuller from Hak5, Larry Pesce from PaulDotCom, Bruce Potter from Shmoocon, Ed Skodis from In-Guardians, and many more.
This weekend was the first ever con of the South Ontario hacker spaces called MiniSoOnCon. Members of Diyode, HackLab.TO, KwartzLab all met up at the new hackerspace, Think|Haus in Hamilton, Ontario.
This was the first time Think|Haus was open to the public since they leased the space just a few months ago. The whole event was amazing. Just some of the highlights:
October meeting coming up this Friday! For those that can make it we will be video conferencing with Mark, who will be in attendance to this years MiniSoOnCon. Usual time, usual place; hope to see you there.
We’re starting to put together a new Rochester 2600 website and looking for feedback. If you are good with wordpress or have some recommendations, make yourself known.
